The Andalusian Bowling Federation mourns the passing of Craig Bryan Lewis

Andalusian lawn bowls says goodbye to one of its most respected players, a Spanish international and a deeply committed figure in the organisation and development of the sport in Andalucía.

The Andalusian Bowling Federation wishes to express its deepest sorrow at the passing of Craig Bryan Lewis, a well-known and much-loved lawn bowls player within the Andalusian bowling community.

Craig Lewis was, for many years, one of the leading names in lawn bowls in Andalucía. He was closely linked to Santa María Bowling Club in Marbella for a long period, until the club’s closure in 2020. More recently, he was a member of Mijas Bowling Club, where he continued to enjoy and contribute to the sport.

Throughout his sporting career, Craig earned recognition as a highly competitive and respected player. He represented the Spanish national lawn bowls team in international competitions, including the Five Nations Tournament in Cyprus and the European Championships 2022, where he competed for Spain in the triples and fours disciplines.

At Andalusian level, his honours included notable results in the regional championships. Among them were the Men’s Pairs title in 2019, won alongside Peter Baldry, and the Men’s Pairs runner-up position in 2023, together with Nick Cummins. These achievements reflect the quality, consistency and commitment of a player who was held in high regard on the greens of Andalucía.

However, Craig Lewis was much more than an outstanding player. He was also deeply committed to the organisation, running and development of lawn bowls in Andalucía. Over the years, he took on important roles within his club and within the structure of the Federation. At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Lawn Bowls Technical Committee for the province of Málaga, serving as a committee member and contributing his experience, judgement and knowledge of the game.

His sudden loss has come as a great shock to the Andalusian Bowling Federation and, in particular, to all those who shared with him competitions, club life, federation work and friendship.

The President of the Andalusian Bowling Federation, José Miguel Nieto Ojeda, together with the Vice-President for Lawn Bowls, Mario Bixio Foletti, and the entire Board of Directors of the FAB, wish to convey their deepest condolences to Craig’s family, friends, fellow members of Mijas Bowling Club and the wider lawn bowls community, sharing in the sorrow caused by such a sudden and deeply felt loss.

Rest in peace, Craig. Your memory will remain on the greens of Andalucía.

  1. A sad loss to Bowls in Spain and particularly in the Malaga province. I always looked forward to playing against Craig and having a chat and drink afterwards. I will miss him. RIP Craig.
